Aufgrund der jüngsten Ereignisse im Libanon veröffentlichen wir hier unseren Aufruf und die Bitte, sich den deutschen Rotariern bei den Hilfsmaßnahmen für den Libanon anzuschließen. Dabei stehen insbesondere die Versorgung und der Wiederaufbau zerstörter medizinischer Einrichtungen im Vordergrund.

Am Dienstag, den 04.08.2020 um 18:08 Uhr Ortszeit hat es im Hafen von Beirut eine infolge unsachgemäßer Lagerung von 2.750 Tonnen Ammoniumnitrat ausgelöste verheerende Explosion gegeben, bei der nach jetzigem Stand mehr als 200 Menschen zu Tode gekommen sind und etwa 6.000 verletzt wurden. Die Verwüstungen in der Stadt haben 300.000 Menschen obdachlos gemacht.

Bereits vor dieser Katastrophe hat der Länderausschuss die Clubs im Distrikt 1890 gebeten, sich an einer bereits angelaufenen Hilfslieferung zu beteiligen, mit der alle 25 libanesischen Rotary Clubs jeweils waschbare Gesichtsmasken und medizinische Einmalhandschuhe erhalten. Die Zollformalitäten sowie die Verteilung der per Luftfracht transportierten Hilfsgüter auf die Clubs organisiert der dortige ICC.

Die Explosion in Beirut hat die Lage natürlich verändert, wodurch die bedarfsgerechte Auswahl von Hilfsleistungen noch bedeutsamer geworden ist. Wie wir aus dem Libanon hören, fehlt es im Land an allem. Aus diesem Grund hat sich der Länderausschuss entschlossen, das bereits begonnene Projekt mit einem Budget von € 17.000 zu Ende zu bringen. Der Versand der Hilfsgüter erfolgt in der 35. Woche.

In welcher Form wir die Hilfe für den Libanon auf andere, insbesondere medizinische Bedarfsgüter erweitern, möchten wir von der erfolgreichen Umsetzung der laufenden Aktion, konkreten Wünschen der Rotarier im Libanon und natürlich von der Machbarkeit weiterer Lieferungen abhängig machen. Dabei geht es nicht nur um die Finanzierungsfrage, sondern auch um die bedarfsgerechte Auswahl dieser Hilfsgüter.

In der Zwischenzeit hat es der Länderausschuss übernommen, die unterschiedlichen Ansätze für Hilfsaktionen soweit möglich auch bundesweit zu koordinieren. Insofern möchten wir Sie im Namen des Länderausschusses auf diesem Wege ganz herzlich bitten, sich an an der Hilfe für den Wiederaufbau des Libanons, insbesondere im medizinischen Bereich, zu beteiligen. Bitte berücksichtigen Sie dabei, dass die Mittel bzw. die Hilfsgüter in voller Höhe dorthin gelangen, wo sie gebraucht werden. Die Verwendung wird von Rotariern vor Ort überwacht.

Due to the recent events in Lebanon, we publish our appeal and request to join the German Rotarians in the relief effort for Lebanon. The focus is on providing support for the supply and reconstruction of the destroyed medical facilities.

On Tuesday, August 4th, 2020 at 6:08 p.m. local time, there was a devastating explosion in the port of Beirut as a result of improper storage of 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate, in which, according to the current status, more than 200 people were killed and around 6,000 were injured. The devastation in the city has left 300,000 people homeless.

Even before this disaster, the country committee asked the clubs in District 1890 to take part in an aid delivery that had already started, with which all 25 Lebanese Rotary clubs will receive washable face masks and disposable medical gloves. The local ICC organizes the customs formalities as well as the distribution of the aid supply goods transported to the clubs.

The explosion in Beirut has of course changed the situation, which has made the need-based selection of aid even more important. As we hear from Lebanon, the country is in need of almost everything. For this reason, the country committee has decided to complete the project that has already started with a budget of € 17,000. The shipment of the aid supply goods takes place in the 35th week.

In what form we extend the aid for Lebanon to other, especially medical supplies, we would like to make dependent on the successful implementation of the current campaign, the specific wishes of Rotarians in Lebanon and of course on the feasibility of further deliveries. It is not only about the question of financing, but also about the needs-based selection of these aid supplies.

In the meantime, the regional committee has taken on the task of coordinating the various approaches to aid actions nationwide as far as possible. In this respect, we would like to take this opportunity to ask you, on behalf of the country committee, to take part in the aid campaign for Lebanon. Please take into account that the funds and/or the aid supplies go where they are needed the most. Use is monitored by local Rotarians.
